Why Creation Care?

The Social Creed of the United Methodist Church covers seven aspects of Christian responsibility.  The second aspect states: "We affirm the world as God's handiwork and dedicate ourselves to its preservation, enhancement and faithful use by humankind." Psalms 24:1 states "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it."  The world is not ours, it is God's. We are to be stewards of His great work.  Creation care is not only a biblical mandate for us as Christians, but it is also a matter of justice.  As our world's environment deteriorates, the poor and those in developing countries will suffer the most.  Matthew 25: 40 says "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'  Luke 10: 27, "...'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself."  Recycling is just one step in creation care.  There is much to be done.  Please join us as we embark on this exciting new endeavor.
